Poeta y dramaturgo danés, considerado el poeta nacional de Dinamarca. Se situó a la cabeza del romanticismo literario danés con su poema
Guldhornene [Los cuernos de oro] (1802). En 1803 publicó
Digte [Poemas] y en 1805
Poetiske skrifter [Escritos poéticos], dos importantes colecciones que incluían varios dramas líricos. Entre las obras teatrales de Oehlenschläger que abordan la historia y mitología danesas destaca
